One of the guiding principles of the William E. Schmidt Foundation has always been to encourage and nurture the pursuits of young people and the arts. It was with this in mind that the Foundation identified wonderful partners who could help launch and facilitate the Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition and the Schmidt Vocal Institute.
The Schmidt Vocal Competition is open to talented young singers who are currently in their sophomore, junior or senior year in high school. Initiated in the 1990’s, the competition has grown to national prominence with events held across the country. Many contestants have gone on to train at elite music institutions throughout the world.

The Schmidt Vocal Institute (SVI) pairs gifted high school-aged singers with artist faculty in an intensive college-preparatory and wide-ranging experience in vocal performance. SVI is hosted by Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
